And so the lion fell in love with the lamb...," he murmured. I looked away, hiding my eyes as I thrilled to the word. "What a stupid lamb." I sighed. "What a sick, masochistic lion."
-edward and bella describing their attraction to one another in the meadow :D

"Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars - points of light and reason... and then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn't see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything."
-edward on describing his life after he met bella :D

About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him - and I don't know how dominant that part might be - that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
-bella on deciding on her relationship with edward in twilight when she first met him(:

"FINALLY! BLOG REVIVED!" - posted by Isabel Maria at 9:03 PM
hey ppl! so long nvr blog le!(: so sry, revival time now! LOL. well, a lot of things are currently happening. lets start with today! had cca from 1-6 today *yawn* very tired now..sigh ): on wed and thurs, i have cca rehearsal on wed and actual performance on thurs. both are until 11PM. im going with peisze :D its unfair!!! im going to miss sch on wed from 11 am onwards. then I CANT GO THE SHAKESPEARE SHOW WITH YENLIN! JUST GREAT. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO IT SO MUCH. hmph. ):

sigh..nothing to do lah..no choice too ): my hw’s going to pile up. zzz. sianz ): well. just received yueqi’s email today :D she sent me some photos of herself. she got herself a new haircut! :D later i will upload. there are three pics she sent me. okay, now down to twilight discussion :D

TWILIGHT DISCUSSION (since yueqi started it. she sent the email to me and yenlin! so i shall post our three views :D)

YUEQI”S POINT OF VIEW ON NEW MOON (she hasnt read twilight and eclipse yet. she couldnt find the book twilight. so her views are a bit biased)

Nothing else matters much. I am trying to read Twilight, but cannot find it in the library. disappointed. but i have read New Moon. i can find a number of flaws in it. sorry to burst your bubble, but do you mind if i point out some of the things in the book? cause you are a fan and all that... and i am not... yet.

Let's look at the theme first.

Girls, nothing matters unless you have you man. not your life, not you family, your friends, your past, present and future. You must risk everything for your man, even he is very likely to kill you, you must be with him always, for all eternity. it is better to die than to grow old and ugly. it is better to be a vampire and to be inhuman with no soul than to be human and have a soul.

honestly, those are not very good themes to be communicating to teenage girls, who are mostly the audience of this book. and there is little characterization in both Bella and Edward. Jacob is a bit better...i can't tell what Bella's personality is like, since Edward is all that she thought of. she's apparently very helpless- needing big strong males by her side to help her... i don't think anyone can be so vulnerable. and Edward? everytime they two meet, Bella must subject me to another long long long paragraph on how great Edward looks, how his golden eyes gleam like opals under the moonlight, how his pale skin shimmer like diamond facets... how his beautiful red lips looked deliciously kissable and all that stuff.... i mean, knowing once is ok. but describing him every time we meet him? that gets tiring after a while...the plot was okay- quite a bit of tension.

Jacob was likable. but Edward! he's not there most of the book, yet he's everywhere in the book! Bella is so obsessed with him, she doesn't think of anything else- until i suspect she is not in love but is having a crush. Edward is too perfect- he's inhuman. he does not have any flaws. he is handsome, smart, rich, patient, loving, cute.. blah blah blah. the list does not end. in order for the plot to advance further, shouldn't the author give him at least one flaw?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

yup, thats her view on new moon. :D now’s my reply :D

now down to twilight, new moon and eclipse. well. I think that u think like that because u nvr read twilight yet? oh..and the theme's sort of about true love. I guess u will never understand how bella feels unless you find ur soul mate too.

Soul mates are destined to be together forever as seen from the name :D
okay, quoting you, "Girls, nothing matters unless you have you man. not your life, not you family, your friends, your past, present and future. You must risk everything for your man, even he is very likely to kill you, you must be with him always, for all eternity. it is better to die than to grow old and ugly. it is better to be a vampire and to be inhuman with no soul than to be human and have a soul."

well, nothing basically matters when u are with ur soul mate. you are ready to give up everything for ur soul mate. nothing exists, not even you, when your soul mates dun exist. yup, just wanted to highlight that again: we will not ever understand the love and strong bond between soul mates unless u find ur soul mate one day. :D

yup, and bella describes edward until like that. she is deeply in love, cant you tell? not just a crush..love means spending every waking moment thinking about ur soul mate when he/ she is not with you. yup, just wanted to explain that to you. (: and stephenie meyer just wants to portray edward as being perfect as it is nearly impossible in reality.

YENLIN’s reply and views :D (hers are DEFINITELY longer than mine. LOL. since she’s so insightful)

Yes, I do see that Bella is a weak and vulnerable figure that girls could never see as a role model. The book says the perfect boyfriend is always one with who's flawless and unrealistic. Here are a few quotes

(They were trying to get Twilight into the popular Oprah Winfrey show):
"How has the Twilight series influenced anyone in a positive way, especially teenage girls?
The main character, Bella, is obsessed - to the point of extreme - over a MAN. Oprah Winfrey's show targets women and she wants every woman to strive for independence. Now, Bella's life completely revolves around her [vampire] boyfriend. In New Moon, when he breaks up with her, she has no life at all. She starts using Jacob so she can hear Edward's voice. Yes, she starts doing dangerous activities - risking her life - so she can hear Edward's voice. Then there comes the point in which she becomes suicidal and decides to jump off a cliff. All of this over a guy.I can only see this book influencing women in a wrong way. Bella has no inner strength at all and Winfrey wishes for all women to have confidence in themselves.

Oprah Winfrey doesn't like realistic characters. I said that Winfrey wants women to get OVER those insecurities; she wants women to be STRONG-minded. Winfrey wants women to become confident in themselves, to strive to be independent.Does Bella do either of these things? No. Having insecurities does not mean you have to be weak.

There is no theme in the series about overcoming adversities, in the least. The society they live in does not have a problem with their relationship, at all. Their families, their friends, their neighbours, people of high authority; nobody is trying to break or prevent this relationship from happening. This series is a very light read, there's nothing that will exhort brain power.
Why would you like to bring more readers to this fandom? We should be recommending books that are actually influential in a positive way, instead of bringing light to a book which already has such a ridiculous amount of fame. And it's a good thing teachers don't read this book in class. There's no substance; there's nothing to learn from this book. Like I said earlier, the only way this book could influence people would be in a wrong way due to the main character's dependence on men and the shallowness of all the Fork citizens. Truly, what is there to learn?

Average teenagers have insecurities, kids. It doesn't matter that they don't overcome them, this is still a "realistic" book, so it's all good! No.Or what about:Hey, let's all gush over these so adorable scene where the characters are kissing and spilling their love for each other!Yeah, wouldn't work. "

I'm not as obsessed over the book as you think. I just became my favourite read as it is light and portrays girls in their teenage years very realistically, when they become all interested in boys and all. What makes them drawn to the book is that they um....often see themselves as Bella with that boyfriend. Stephenie has a form of repetition in telling her story, which makes one more immersed in it. I do understand that it has a main character that isn't that...strong. But for a Young Adult read, related to romance, at least it doesn't use really disgusting stuff. You should see other Young Adult read lol. I totally treat this as fictional. Why learn from it when there's not much to learn about? The point is, as long as a book is enjoyable, why not read it?

A book like "To Kill a Mockingbird" is actually my preferred read to Twilight. It's a MUCH better book to read, one of the best in literature. Or something like "The Good Earth", where the main character strives through hard times and turn from Poor to Rich. Twilight, to me, is simply something very enjoyable. As a light read. I admit, New Moon is actually one of the worst in the series. Bella couldn’t get over the loss of Edward. Gets kind of annoying, herself. Eclipse is the best (the 3rd book), although Jacob starts to behave a little more childish, but for Bella's own good. Edward became much matured in handling the relationship. Bella is free to choose between him and Jacob, as long as she remains happy. He knows he can never provide everything Jacob can offer. You'll understand why she's so obsessed with Edward in the 1st Book, (Twilight). In Eclipse, she learns how to face reality and not break the hearts of the ones around her anymore. She has to choose: Either Edward, or Jacob.
