hi.. just wanted to post about our IDMI meeting.. we met at pasir ris mrt and then went to dawnie's hse =] fun..but i was late =[ as the bus came late and i waited for 15 minutes =[ then went with dawn to buy fries at macdonald's (yay!!!) =] then when finally zhang rui came and we accompanied her to foodcourt at white sands as she had just woken up! and she had not had her breakfast and lunch yet..so she had brunch..hee =] when i had my lunch already! then alien was waiting for keng heng..then when keng heng came, they went to watch (dunno wat. mr bean?) as zhang rui was still eating. then took bus 3 to dawnie's hse..actually we were lucky as we were at first like going to miss the bus 3..then after that (lucky for us) another bus came within 1 second. so we ran all the way, it was real lucky lor..then when we reached her hse, then we like deliberately left the boys behind. we closed teh lift before they could get in and then we pressed 10th, 11th, 13th (real floor of her hse) and 17th floor to fool them so that they dunno the floor of her hse lah..haha..lol..it was like so funny..until finally they climbed thw stairs all the way up lor..then dawn's doggy was real fierce..kept on barking and barking!!! then we went into dawn's rm and did a draft of poster..then alien and keng heng slacked lor..they are supposed to do ppt..but in the end nv do (so naughty and lazy)..they went to like play com and go to blogs..so they slacked in the end..and then we went home and that's all le for last friday =] =) =D blasting off, isabel =] (hee =] hello wello =])

The result: metal smears on the surface of parent stars, said European Southern Observatory astronomer Luca Pasquini, who offered up another analogy: "It is a little bit like a tiramisu or a cappuccino," Pasquini said. "There is cocoa powder only on the top." The finding could help unravel mysteries of planet formation. As scientists began discovering exoplanets, or worlds orbiting distant stars, in the past decade, they found these planets were most often found around stars rich in iron. Stars that host planets are on average nearly twice as rich in metals than counterparts without worlds. But are these stars rich in metals because planetary debris polluted them? Or do metal-loaded stars naturally spawn worlds? It's a classic chicken-or-egg problem. If these metals were planetary debris, they would only be found in the outer layers of stars. On the other hand, if these metals were inherently part of the stars, they would be found to their cores. Unfortunately, the only light that astronomers can see from stars comes just from their outermost layers, which means there is no direct way to peer into their hearts. Instead, scientists looked at stars whose innards churn far more than our sun does. The ingredients of the interiors of these stars roil to their surfaces for astronomers to analyze. Specifically, researchers focused on red giants, stars that-as will the sun in several billion years- have puffed up and become much larger and cooler after they have exhausted the hydrogen in their cores. Compared with sun-like stars, these giants have much larger convective zones, or regions where all the gas is completely mixed. The sun's convective zone comprises only 2 percent of the star's mass, but in red giants the convective zone is 35 times more massive. After inspecting 14 planet-hosting red giants, Pasquini and his colleagues found these were not rich in metals as is typically the case for planet-hosting sun-like stars. The simplest explanation is that metals seen in planet-hosting stars are pollution from planetary debris, findings that will be detailed in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics. The debris might come from "planets themselves or small planetoids," researcher Artie Hatzes, director of the Thuringia State Observatory in Tautenburg, Germany, told SPACE.com. Pasquini said their results might favor the controversial and relatively new "disk instability" theory. This concept states that large planets emerge from clumps of dust and gas whose hearts coalesce into cores that grow relatively quickly. MIT planetary scientist Sara Seager, who did not participate in this study, noted "the findings are an intriguing piece of the puzzle in trying to understand planet formation." Resolving the mysteries concerning how planets form will require a much larger study of metal-rich and metal-poor planet-hosting stars, she added. hi..juz came here to post about something funny that happened today. Well, i "accidentally" poked Yueqi in the side..and well, u know her character..sure muz have revenge and poke me back, rite?? ok..this is where the fun starts..she started chasing me..i ran across the classroom..i wasn't going to give in without a fight and juz let her poke me..NO WAY, MAN!!! anw, i ran to the corner where alien and lawyer are playing a game of "football" with the cube.. then, yueqi took the flagpole and chased after me..not a good choice for her..she swung it, trying to poke me. but i escaped and she hit lawyer in the stomach instead..haha..lol.. and then she swung it again..and almost hit lawyer again..alien quickly snatched the flagpole from her and put it back into its rightful place..so damn funny rite?? i laughed until...... anw, when we went home, (me, pei sze and steph) and yueqi went to the MOE LC and on the way, the conversation with yueqi went like this: ME: yueqi, very funny leh..u hit lawyer again.. YUEQI: ya, poor lawyer..i hit him so many times already.. ME: juz now u very funny leh.. then in the end, we went our separate ways..but before that, yueqi said.. she was the villian..alien was the hero..lawyer was the poor innocent victim and i was the cause of the whole thing as i poked her first..lol..very funny right.. byebye, isabel p.s i think this is the longest post i've ever written and this is about wat happened in school.. =) =D xD
